Government is looking at formulating a national policy that will address security across all schools.
The point was made by Minister of Education Kay McConney after a meeting at Frederick Smith Secondary School yesterday that also involved Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, principal Stephen Jackman, representatives of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union and other education officials.
It came following an alleged assault of a student on the compound of the Trents, St James school on Thursday, which has seen it again boosting security measures.
“There was an incident where a child was assaulted and the matter is now in the police’s hands. They have someone in custody and we will make sure that we will follow that situation,” McConney told the media.

“Until such things are proven, we have to be careful what we say. I will say nothing further on it because due process has to happen.
“As we have done in every situation, the ministry has made resources available for the students, teachers and parents.”
McConney gave the assurance the talks will not be limited to Frederick Smith Secondary. (TG)
