Armed robbery attempt at Shopsmart

Update – Police at the District ‘C’ Station are investigating a case of aggravated burglary in which a security officer was injured during an attempted robbery on Sunday, May 18.

The incident occurred around 1:58 p.m. when two men—one armed with a firearm and the other with a knife—entered a business establishment and attempted to rob the on-duty security guard.

According to police reports, the security officer was approached by the two armed assailants who pointed their weapons at him. The officer attempted to flee but fell, prompting the attackers to physically assault him. A struggle followed, during which the officer sustained injuries.

He was later assisted by two of his colleagues, while the suspects fled the scene in a Nissan Tiida bearing registration number H37.

Law enforcement officials are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-8477, Police Emergency at 211, or the District ‘C’ Police Station at 416-8200 or 416-8201.

Earlier story

There was an altercation with the guard on duty and shoppers ran out of the store. 

It is not clear at this time if there were any injuries.
