Barbados rule Carifta chess

BARBADOS’ SUCCESS at the CARIFTA Games extended from the track, field and pool to the chess tables yesterday.

The local boys and girls are celebrating their capture of the fourth annual CARIFTAGames chess championships.

In maintaining the tradition set by previous host teams, Barbados completed their triumph on the final day of the Massy United Insurance-sponsored championships at the Divi Southwinds Hotel.

Barbados’ two highest-rated players, Orlando Husbands and Yu Tien Poon, claimed gold medals in the Open Under-20 and Under-16 divisions, respectively, but the hosts’ success was as a result of an overall team effort in all sections.
