WEST INDIES BATSMAN Chris Gayle has signed to play T20 cricket for Somerset County.
And the announcement via Twitter today, overwhelmed the cricket club’s servers.
“BREAKING: Chris Gayle will be joining Somerset for 6 @NatWestT20Blast matches!” Somerset Cricket announced via Twitter earlier today.
It was retweeted more than 300 times and as people rushed to read the story, the website crashed.
“We are having some technical issues with our website at the moment! A certain story is receiving too much traffic for our servers! #bearwithus”,” said a follow up tweet.
Gayle is expected to arrive in late May, as he will be competing in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“Signing a world-class player of the quality of Chris Gayle is tremendously exciting for the club,” said Somerset’s director of cricket Matthew Maynard in an interview with the BBC.
“He will be a tremendous addition to our already extremely strong squad. He is an inspirational character and we are delighted to be bringing him to Somerset.”
Gayle recently announced he would not be representing the West Indies in the upcoming series against England. (SAT)
