THE ST GEORGE Secondary School has big plans for agriculture.
As one of the recipients of funding from the Inter-American Development Bank’s School Improvement Grant (SIG) with awards of up to $60 000, the school has started construction of its 500 square foot chicken pen.
Two other components – a tilapia pond and facilities to rear rabbits – are expected to come on stream shortly.
Head of the Science Department Stephen Proverbs gave visiting education lead specialists of the IDB a tour and update of the projects on Wednesday.
Proverbs, who is leading the project, said the chicken pen for broiler production had been started. He said the construction was being done with input from the students of the Industrial Arts Department, which meant they would take a longer than normal time for completion.
