Dear Christine,
MY BEST FRIEND’S BOYFRIEND has been forcing himself on me for a long time, until I finally started to have an affair with him.
We were able to keep it a secret but now I think that I am pregnant for him.
I do not know where to go for help or who to tell my troubles to. My parents are going to be very angry and hurt and I know I’ll lose my friend I had since school days.
Can you please help me?
– PG
Dear PG,
You’ve said that you think you’re pregnant. This means you’re not sure. The first thing you have to do is visit a doctor to verify whether or not you are.
I sincerely hope you’re not and that what is happening in your life right now is just a wake-up call for you to stop the affair you’re having with your best friend’s boyfriend. Obviously, you gave in to the pressure, but please do not say that he forced himself on you. You made a choice – a wrong one.
If you are pregnant, of all the people involved in your situation, the baby deserves the most sympathy. If your parents are shocked, your friend is hurt and the so-called “boyfriend” feels badly about cheating, it’s something you will have to live with until time takes away all the hurts. You can, however, allow it to teach you some valuable lessons in life, such as what it means to be a true friend.
Make that visit to the doctor and if the results are positive, you must not waste time. Inform those who need to know such as your parents, the child’s father and of course you must face your friend, apologise and ask for forgiveness.
You may lose her as a friend and you may even lose the child’s father, but you’ll know the steps you have to take from there.
– CHRISTINE
