Olga Martin was the toast of Kendall Hill, Christ Church as she marked her 100th birthday yesterday on International Women’s Day.
Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave joined relatives, friends and well-wishers, including Cabinet Minister Stephen Lashley, the parliamentary representative for the area, at Martin’s home wishing her many more years and toasting to her good health.
Several of the remaining eight of Martin’s ten children attended, including her eldest daughter, 84-year-old Eileen Evelyn.
Daughter Christal said that up to two years ago, her mum was alert and active, but she does not communicate much now and sleeps most of the day. She is still physically well, does not have health challenges and still has a reasonable appetite, Christal pointed out.
The former seamstress was a member of the Stream Gospel Hall and an occasional member of the New Life Tabernacle in Kendall Hill.
