THE GIRLS of Queen’s College (QC) will be defending their Massy Stores Schools volleyball knockout title next Monday but not the boys.

On Wednesday, QC’s boys were stunned by Christ Church Foundation 25-15, 25-22 with Barbados’ junior captain Andriy Stapleton leading the attack for Foundation. Ironically, Adam Niles, who plays for Deacons with Stapleton, countered for the deposed champions with a greater supporting cast.

However, Stapleton, with setter Paul Doughty making a significant contribution, ensured that Foundation took the match in straight sets to face the intimidating squad of the Barbados Community College (BCC), who stopped Combermere 25-13, 25-17 with a unit boasting many graduates from Coleridge & Parry, as well as a number of Barbados juniors.

QC’s girls will play Foundation in Monday’s finals, with the odds heavily favouring victory for the QC girls and BCC boys. (KB)
