THE NATIONAL UNION of Public Workers (NUPW) will stage a protest march tomorrow as planned.
Word of this came from president Walter Maloney following a meeting with Minister of Labour Esther Byer at her Warrens, St Michael offices this morning.
Maloney said the strike was not on the agenda. Rather, the meeting was to bring the NUPW up to speed on what was happening with the Employment Rights Tribunal, which was dealt a heavy blow with the resignation of eight of its nine members in December.
A new tribunal is to be named, but there is no word on when it will be up and running.
Retrenched workers from the National Conservation Commission and all other NUPW members who want to show solidarity, are asked to meet at Queen’s Park at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. (YB)
