TODAY COULD BE when United Commercial Autoworks Limited (UCAL) employees decide whether they will continue operating without payment of wages.
Frustrated men and women of the Weymouth, Roebuck Street operation which repairs and services Transport Board vehicles under contract, were up in arms yesterday after learning they were not going to receive wages owed for the week ending December 31.
A spokesman for the group, assembled in the workshop, told the DAILY NATION they were informed in a hurriedly arranged meeting with managing director Frederick Gittens, just after 10 a.m., that “there was no money to pay the staff”.
This announcement came, according to the workers, after they had been paid late last week and late again for Christmas.
