Firebug strikes

EVERY DECEMBER for the past four years Albina Burke sadly remembers her husband who died on December 28 and the struggle he went through to singlehandedly build their two-storey home.

January 1 became another sorrowful day in her life when the same house was almost destroyed by fire.

Burke, who lives at Briar Hall, Christ Church, and her son Eric Samuel became the first victims of the firebug for 2015.

albina-burkeThe fire apparently started at Samuel’s wooden house which was located directly in front of Burke’s and which was destroyed. Burke’s house, which was insured, sustained extensive damage to the front.

The 62-year-old woman was in her bedroom watching the news on television when she heard her niece running down the stairs. (MB)
