PRISON FELLOWSHIP Barbados has appealed to churches to give former inmates a better deal, complaining that some were nice to convicts on the inside but not after they were freed.
Head of the agency Thomas Watts made the call yesterday, saying: “There are some church people that come to the prison and talk to the prisoners about how they should live and what they should do when they leave the institution, but when the fellows come out of prison they run them.”
He charged that while some religious leaders were helpful, some were not keen on offering jobs or other assistance to former prisoners and simply did not want them around.
