Chemical spill at Pine Hill Dairy, road impassable

Emergency personnel are currently assessing the situation at the Pine Hill Diary where a chemical spill is reported to have occurred around 5:25 p.m. today.

Staff were evacuated from the building along the Pine, St Michael stretch of the ABC Highway.

The chemical, which has not been named, is said to be harmful to the respiratory tract and members of the public have been asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Sections of the ABC Highway between the Samuel Jackman Prescod and Norman Niles roundabouts may be closed during the assessment stage.

Emergency crews are under the leadership of assistant superintendent Trevor Blackman of the Royal Barbados Police Force and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Henderson Patrick of the Barbados Fire Service.
