Former Barbados Golf Association (BGA) president Hadley Byer and Julian King emerged winners of a BGA two-ball/better-ball tournament at the upscale Apes Hill Club last Saturday.
Amidst sometimes heavy showers, the winners defied testing conditions as well as competitive rivals on the fairways and greens to lift the top prize in the tournament, donated by Flow Communications, with a score of 46 points.
Second were Steve Buckmaster and Ansari Muhajiri, on 44 points, as they edged third-placed Daryl Hosein and Tim Heljienek on the count-back system.
Sixty-two players, or 31 two-ball teams, took part in the fund-raising tournament organised by the BGA as part of ongoing efforts to raise funds for national junior and senior-golf programmes.
Among the other players collecting individual prizes for closest to-the-pin tee-shots, were junior national player Iz Hustler (two feet, 2 inches on hole No.5); Hadley Byer (2 feet on hole No.8); Chris DeCaires (6 feet on Hole No. 16); Barry Clarke (9 feet on hole No. 2) and Xzavier Wiggins (13 feet on hole No.12).
The tournament was supported by Flow, Sol, the Apes Hill Club, Banks and Lucky Horseshoe.
BGA president Cally Boyea thanked all sponsors and players for their particiaption and noted that several of the island’s national representatives, as well as five juniors, took part in the tournament.
Tournament coordinator and BGA vice-president James Johnson presented the prizes and thanked players, sponsors and the staff of the Apes Hill hosting course for contributing to a successful tournament. (PR/BB)
