Technology is big business internationally and can be for Barbados if the right steps are taken in the public and private sectors.

As PromoTech Incorporated celebrated its 15th anniversary and officially opened its store in the Dome Mall, Warrens, St Michael, company officials, their main overseas partner and a Government minister stressed the need to exploit the opportunities available in information and communication technology.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development Donville Inniss said PromoTech “must be a reminder for us that there is great potential in the field of technology”.

“The opportunities are limitless, especially when we see the world as our market place. I want to see our children from primary school and onward exposed to and using the technology,” he said.

“I too want to see more of our your minds going in the direction of technological fields as career options . . . Today our techies are bridging the gap, commanding respect from and for all and certainly having the earning power to rival all.”

PromoTech chief executive officer Kailash Pardasani said “despite the challenging economy our team, customers, and partners continue to stand by us as industry leaders while we grow and offer further employment opportunities to the Barbadian public”.

“Today we are also engaging in discussions regarding different business ventures, acquisitions and more.

“If you have the foresight as a team member, client, vendor or partner, we want to work with you.”

Pedro Cheng, Caribbean regional manager at international information technology company HP, said PromoTech’s HP store here was “the most successful” one in the region and that HP was “very happy with the work of the PromoTech team”.

“HP is number one in printers and PCs in the world and PromoTech’s hard-working team helped grow HP’s number one in Barbados and so overall we are happy.”

He said his company had decided to partner with PromoTech on other projects, including corporate business and networking service solutions. (SC)
