Rush to ready Gap

It could be a race against time to spruce up some aspects of St Lawrence Gap before the start of the winter tourism season, but chairman of the BHTA’s Gap Committee believes it can be done.

Rod Weatherhead said in a brief interview with the SUNDAY SUN yesterday that the committee which was formed out of a discussion at a BHTA (Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association) meeting in October, would work towards having some of the more pressing issues tackled before December 15.

The managing director of hotel operations for the Sun Group Inc. said the once lively entertainment strip on the south coast was not dead or dying but rather was going through a “revitalisation” phase.

“I guess you have to get down to that slump and you’re seeing, yes, businesses go out, but you are seeing a lot of new business coming in and you’re seeing renovations. Infinity is proof of that, McBride’s went through renovations, the Speak Easy is apparently coming back.

“Up to today I drove through and saw a new restaurant I never saw before so I think the revitalisation is coming back . . . the first thing is to clean the area and that would lift everything and everybody, and try and weed out the bag eggs at the same time,” he said.
