Clarke again threatens strike action at BCC

GENERAL SECRETARY of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Dennis Clarke, is frustrated by what he termed the scant respect being showed by management of the Barbados Community College (BCC).

So upset is he, a promise has been made that unless BCC’s management arranges a meeting “very soon”, teachers at the tertiary institution will be called out on strike.

It is the second time within the space of three weeks that Clarke has threatened the BCC with strike action following its failure to set a date to discuss the contracts of part-time tutors, backpay which is owed to the tutors from 2006, as well as the fact that they have not been paid since August.

Clarke told the DAILY NATION yesterday he was surprised by the actions of the BCC, especially considering the fact that the NUPW had been negotiating for staff over the past four years.
