THE Town and Country Planning Department has served 120 notices so far this year to suspend unauthorised developments.

Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins told the SUNDAY SUN that although this number was not unusually high, he was still concerned that too many people continued to flout the planning laws by erecting structures without the approval of the department.

“When we have evidence of such development which is being done without planning permission, we put an enforcement notice in place giving the person 28 days with which to comply with the notice or make an application for retention of the development,” he said.

Cummins pointed out that once the notice was served, construction should cease.
