Friends of Sir Cliff Richard believe his name will be cleared so he can start a new life in Barbados.

Sir Cliff, a 73-year-old entertainer, is facing allegations that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy at a religious event back in 1985.

According to a report in the Sunday Mirror, Sir Cliff, who was born in Britain but became a Barbadian citizen two years ago, has been staying at a home in Portugal while the investigation is being conducted.

Friends claim he is the victim of a police witch-hunt, while Sir Cliff denies the allegations and says he does not know who would have made the claims about him.

The police have also been criticised for the way they have handled the investigation.

According to the Mirror report, during a confrontation in the House of Commons, Members of Parliament chided South Yorkshire constable David Crompton after police allowed a BBC film crew to join them on the search of Sir Cliff’s luxury apartment.

Footage was beamed across the world and Compton apologised for appearing to be “insensitive”.

Sir Cliff’s legal team says the allegations are false.

The entertainer has also suffered some fall-out for his decision to leave Britain and become a Barbadian citizen. (Sunday Mirror/SAT)
