It was one of the biggest children’s parties around, and the reason was to celebrate ten years of existence.
In ten years over 350 babies have been born to Barbadian families with the help of the Barbados Fertility Centre (BFC). Recently, BFC hosted its tenth anniversary celebration at Art Splash in Hastings, Christ Church, where many of the families that were created locally by in vitro fertilization gathered to celebrate the clinic’s success.
Couples like Jacqueline Gillies-Layne and her husband Reynold Layne have become parents to their son Reyne Hendry Layne because of the efforts of Dr Juliet Skinner, the consultant gynaecologist at BFC.
“We’re still in a dream and we love everyday having him in our lives,” Jacqueline says of their son Reyne. “We were so lucky because everything worked for us in one shot.”
Similar sentiments were expressed by several families throughout the entire day.
Adrian Elcock, chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority, gave high praise to the organization for the great work of the first-class medical facility, which is not only assisting families, but also boosting medical tourism.
Elcock was also speaking as a parent who had benefited from the BFC.
“When Ann and I considered IVF, we went to Boca Raton, Florida, but everything seemed so mechanical there,” Elcock recalled. “But when we contacted BFC, it was the calm reassurance that came through the facility. It not only delivers babies; it creates families and foundations to build upon.” (SH-O)
