Middle distance queen Ashlyn Simmons maintained her record-breaking feat when she shattered two of three during yesterday’s quarter-finals of the National Primary School Athletics Championships (NAPSAC) at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

No competitor in her heat or division was a match for the Eden Lodge student in her pet events, the 600 and 400 metres.

She once again displayed a big heart while relying on speed, technique and endurance to dismiss the field, bettering her former NAPSAC record of one minute, 42.78 seconds in the 600 when she clocked 1:41.08.

Her next appearance saw her advance in the 400 metres when she erased Shontae Cole of Grazettes Primary’s former time of 1:01.10 to clock a new time of 1.00.77.

The day was one that saw most of the top athletes in the zonal meets repeating outstanding performances to advance to next Friday’s semi-finals.
