The next instalment of Honey Jam Barbados was launched on Wednesday at Divi Southwinds to a packed room of aspiring singers and artistes and their representatives.
Over the next few months there will be auditions, workshops and then the big show said Honey Jam founder Ebonnie Rowe, who shared details of plans for the upcoming events.
Some of the artistes, such as Karma Nai and country singer Malissa Alanna, gave their perspectives on what the previous showcases had done for them so far. Malissa Alanna has been to Nashville, working with well known producers and songwriters.
Tamita Griffith of the Young Women’s Christian Association spoke about partnering with Honey Jam as outreach outlet for young women.
Honey Jam showcases all young local female artists representing a variety of genres – country, opera, folk, alternative, R&B, hip hop, rock, reggae, spoken word, jazz, gospel – a cultural potpourri.
It is a platform for young women to gain exposure, education, mentoring and networking opportunities in the music industry and arts community. It is based on the Honey Jam movement in Canada that boasts Nelly Furtado as their most famous alumna. The concept was introduced to Barbados in February 2011 to an overwhelming response from the artists, public and media.  (PR/NSH)
