Just over a month after an incident at Grantley Adams International Airport between a Customs guard and a policeman resulted in the arrest of the guard, the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) has another matter on its hands.
And BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman is saying that if it is not handled urgently and fully, it will result in “some form of regrettable incident”.
Reports indicate that on Monday a senior Customs guard in uniform was approached and challenged by a police officer, who demanded to see the contents of his bag.
It is understood that while the guard was in the process of opening the bag, the officer reached for his gun from the ankle holster and “palmed” it.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION last night, Sir Roy said he met with the guards yesterday and they went back to work “reluctantly”.
