Plagiarism worrying CXC

Senior assistant registrar with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Susan Giles, has expressed concern about plagiarism as well as failure of some schools to submit work done for school-based assessment (SBA) projects.
However, she says Barbados is not guilty in either case.
Giles said “a couple cases” of plagiarism had been discovered by the regional examination body over the last couple of years “and this is something that has worried us”.
According to the CXC official, the discoveries of plagiarism were made in some instances by authors of the books from which the material had been extracted without acknowledgement, while they were in the process of marking candidates’ papers.
“All we are saying to candidates is you can’t just take things off books and use them and don’t acknowledge the source,” Giles told the WEEKEND NATION. (GC)
