Denise’s thrift shop her helping hand

When Denise Tannis was a little girl, she was always fussy when she received new clothes. Unfortunately, new clothes were not a priority, and many times her mother had to rely on clothing donations to outfit Denise and her siblings.

Today, Tannis has changed the dynamics a bit. Through her charitable business, Dress For Success, she provides clothing to those who are looking for a bargain, those who are interested in purchasing quality clothes at affordable prices, and those who just want to dress for success.

For Tannis, it’s not a moneymaking venture. In fact, both she and her sister, Reverend Anne Hamilton-Cutting, have grown accustomed to investing some of their hard-earned money into making Dress For Success a true success – not in terms of financial gains, but in terms of helping people feel good about themselves and looking the part as well.

Tannis and her team of volunteers usually make enough money to pay their rent, with the few dollars beyond that generally going towards helping the needy.

While this community worker hopes things will change to enable her to make a greater contribution to charitable causes, she is happy with just making people feel and look good, while providing spiritual guidance to those who enter her establishment. (CH)
