DANE?MACKIE, Joshua Galt, Chelsea Roett and Giselle Allan were among the winners when the Barbados Surfing Association held the third contest of the five-event Surfer Of The Year Championship series last weekend at Parlour on the East Coast.
In waves ranging from two to four feet, Barbados’ top junior surfers were once again impressive, showcasing radical, controlled manoeuvres in the critical section of the wave.
Mackie was again dominant with his progressive style to win the Under-16 and the Under-18 Boys’ divisions as well as the premier Open Men’s Division.
In the Under-16 boys’ Division, Che Allan surfed impressively to finish second to Mackie, while Andrew Rose was third and 11-year-old Zander Venezia was fourth.
Allan was also second in the Under-18 Boys’ division, while Galt, who surfed solidly all day, was third and Venezia was fourth. In the Open Men’s Division, Caelum Blanford was second, Allan was third and Joshua Burke was fourth.
Galt topped the podium in the Open Under-21 Division, while the ever improving Dylan Downie was second. Mackie was third and Danny Edghill fourth.
Roett continued her dominance in the Open Women’s Division once again taking the top spot, while Olivia Warden was second and Gabriella Gittens third.
Twelve-year-old female surfer, Giselle Allan, topped the podium in both the Under-16 and the Under-18 Girls’ divisions. Second to Allan in the Under-16 Girls’ division was Roma Bellori, while Gabriella Gittens was third and Olivia Warden fourth.
In the Under-18 Girls’ division, positions were reversed with Gittens taking the second spot from Roma Bellori.
Venezia continued his in-form surfing to take his third win for the year in the Under-12 division, while Caleb Rapson was second and Darian Pitcher was third. (PR/EZS)
