Track and field could return to the National Stadium on June 8 and 9 when the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) is scheduled to stage the Olympians Classic.
No meets have been held at the Waterford venue this season as the Mondo track was being changed, but the warm-up track has been used twice for hurdles competition.
AAB president Catherine Jordan told MIDWEEKSPORT the association’s officials met with the Barbados Cycling Union and the Barbados Football Association to determine scheduling for the rest of the season.
They requested those dates as well as June 21 to 23 for the National Championships. They have also written the National Sports Council and are awaiting word from director of sports Erskine King about the availability of the venue.
King said the marking of the track started on Monday and, depending on the weather, should be completed in “seven to ten days”.
This puts the completion date tentatively at June 5.
