AT LEAST ONE set of educators will be having a good bank holiday weekend.
The Barbados Association of Drama Educators held its first Playmaking Festival at the refurbished Queen’s Park Steel Shed on Thursday, and president Cecily Spencer-Cross said it was a resounding success.
“It went well. I think it surpassed my expectations. I was very nervous about it, because it was the first time we were doing something like this . . . . A seed has been planted.
“I think from the point of view of the students, they had an opportunity to see each other’s work; they had an opportunity to share their experiences. When they go back to school now, they will start to think ‘How can I make my piece better? How can I create a drama that would surpass what we did before, or what we have seen?’” she stated.
Spencer-Cross said teachers also benefited by getting the opportunity to take the pieces to another level.
Theatre arts students from Alleyne, Christ Church Foundation, Alexandra, Parkinson Memorial, Garrison, Grantley Adams and Combermere presented their CXC pieces before an audience of their peers, and their teachers were given critiques on how to improve the work for future performances. (YB)
