Academics not all to learning

Technical and vocational education are not inferior to academic education.
This is the view of Principal of Harrison College Winston Crichlow, who was the featured speaker during the recent junior graduation at St Leonard’s Boys’ Secondary School.
“To me, those who create are just as valuable as those who provide a service,” he said.
“The creators bring in the necessary foreign exchange for the service-providers to spend. A society needs the contribution of all categories of workers for its total development. Hence all labour is to be equally respected and valued.”
Crichlow said it was for these reasons that he supported the Ministry of Education’s policy to equip the nation’s youth with technical and vocational skills.
He joined other principals in calling for “the implementation of the Caribbean Vocational Qualification in all schools”. (MS)
