STRONG ODOURS from a neighbouring farm in first Avenue Jackson, St Michael, have resulted in a mother and father frequently having to rush their two children to hospital for treatment of their asthma condition.
Derrick and Debbie Herbert said that they were sick and tired of having to wake up every morning to the stench of droppings from cows, sheep, pigs, ducks and fowls.
The situation is compounded by the owner burning the dung from the livestock, he said
“I go to sleep at night and when I wake up in the morning my nose blocked up because of the smell. Sometimes as early as 6 o’clock I get up, brush my teeth and run out of my house because the smell is overbearing. My children leave home early for school, running, because they can’t take the smell from the burning,” Derrick said.
He told the DAILY?NATION that throughout the years he has often called on health inspectors to address the issue, and often tried moral suasion on the farm’s owner, to “do something about that health hazard”. But he acknowledged that his efforts proved futile.
