A LEGAL HITCH prevented a protest march by Alexandra teachers yesterday, but all systems are go for their full call-out of Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU) members today.
Teachers from Alleyne, Combermere, Coleridge and Parry, Harrison College, Foundation, The Lodge, The St Michael, Queen’s College, and some of the newer secondary where the BSTU has representation, will join their comrades from Alexandra School in a march from the union’s headquarters in 8th Avenue, Belleville, to the office of Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Gail Atkins at the corner of Culloden Road and Collymore Rock where they will be picketing.
Just as teachers were about to take to the streets with placards around 9:30 a.m., they received information from police that they had not given 48 hours notification of their march as required by law.
Police however gave the teachers the green light for today’s protest. (YB)
