An English couple, the bride having Barbadian roots, yesterday tied the knot at the Holetown Methodist Church which was, unusually, responsible for almost all the wedding arrangements.
Madeline Clarke, 58, whose Barbadian-born father Dr Bertie Clarke was a well known West Indian Test cricketer (1939), and her companion Patrick Bellville, 61, were married in front of their guests, mainly the church’s congregation.
Neither of the couple’s family members were present the ceremony which lasted for just under two hours.
The flower girls, father-giver and best man were all members of the church.
Decoration of the church, making of the cake, reception held after the ceremony, and even sourcing the photographer and videographer to capture and record shots of the special moments, were organized by the church.
Reverend Roslyn Harper-Johnson, who spearheaded the planning of the wedding, told the SUNDAY SUN that the church, which was known to embrace the tourist community, was pleased to be a part of the ceremony. She said that the couple sought her out for marriage counselling last year and that was followed with a request for the church to coordinate the special event. (AH)
