DLP COLUMN: West Terrace Accord 2011

Venue: West Terrace.  Time: 11 a.m.
Doorbell rings [rrrrrrrrrrrrr]. Owen opens door and greets Mia and company.?No hugs or handshakes, just pleasantries exchanged.
Owen: Welcome Mia! I am glad you could make it . . . I was getting a bit scared.
Mia: Hmmmmm, well, I was invited.
Owen: Please come in . . . Rawle and Cynthia, do have a seat.
Owen: Can I offer you something to drink?
Mia: No, thanks.
Rawle: No, thanks.
Cynthia: Of course, some water. I watching my figure ’cause nobody does look at it for me. (With a big chuckle).
Owen: Ok, let me cut to the chase. Mia, I have been thinking about this rift matter and I have come up with some suggestions. I am willing to lead the party now but I will give way to you and let you lead us into general elections. I will reappoint you as my deputy and chat with Dale and that short man.
Mia: (Cool and calm). You like you is a *@x+*. I thought you brought me here to discuss serious matters. Look fellas, let us leave.
Mia leaves with Cynthia unable to finish her glass of water and Rawle not firmly in his seat. (Meeting bruk up.)
The above conversation represents the recreation of a meeting that allegedly never took place. This meeting was dubbed as the mother of all meetings. It rang out throughout the land as the West Terrace Peace Accord.
This Accord was to replace the Prior Park Accord that took effect and unravelled poor Mia as Opposition leader. The West Terrace Accord, however, had some holes in it from the beginning.
Questions were being asked as to why was it leaked to the Press and how did it manage to get on the frontpage of the newspaper hours before a scheduled vote in St George South.
Was Arthur trying to create the perception that he was in fact the one making the overtures and that Mia was actually the person being stubborn?
Where was the dynamic political duo of Dale Batman Marshall and George Boywonder Payne?
Why was it necessary to have this meeting by Arthur’s residence, after all he does live along the main road in this district? Was it his intention to have the public viewing Mia as she entered his house?
Whatever the reason for the meeting, it had a scent.
Mia’s advisors suggested she decline the offer and stay away but the glutton for punishment could not. She just had to look Arthur in the face and question his sanity.
Arthur was hoping to be the one to make a grand announcement in St George South where he was piloting another political agenda. He was hell-bent on getting Mia’s candidate rejected in the vote.
Did you ever wonder why only Owen was hugging the victor? But Mia was not to go down without a fight and so on cue, she entered as he spoke forcing him to acknowledge her presence.
What are we to make of all of this? Politics as defined by Arthur has come back to bite him.
He meted out quite a blow in his time and now he is on the receiving end. Arthur must finally realise how heavy it is to be on the receiving end.
