Allegations of police beating a man, who was arrested in the same incident in which Jamar Maynard was shot in 2012, came up when the Coroners’ Inquest into the fatal shooting continued yesterday.
It was while Constable Derek Grant was on the stand in the Coroner’s Court that he denied the suggestion that he was involved in beating Carmi Williams.
Grant said he and Constable Kenrick King were on mobile patrol on the night of April 3, 2012, when they responded to a call that came over the police set for assistance on Literary Row.
He said when he arrived he saw a man who subsequently identified himself as Williams in one Drakes’ custody. (DP)
