GOVERNMENT WILL NOT be granting waivers for the registration or licensing of any foreign health practitioners, according to Minister of Health Donville Inniss.
At a briefing yesterday after a meeting between himself, Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) president Dr Carlos Chase and Barbados Dental Association (BDA) president Dr Vidya Armogan in the Ministry of Health’s headquarters on Culloden Road, St Michael, Inniss told the media the granting of such a waiver was simply out of the question.
“You cannot, no matter where you’re coming from, just walk into Barbados and start practising dentistry or medicine without being approved by the [relevant] authorities. Not even I as minister can [allow] that,” he said.
Inniss said the “cordial and productive” meeting was to clear up any “myths” and “misunderstandings” relating to the coming of American World Clinics (AWC). He said another issue was the granting of tax concessions for the foreign medical group and whether local medical practitioners would be receiving similar concessions.
