Track and field fans could be returning to the National Stadium for the first time in four years, as the National Sports Council (NSC) may be looking at reopening the condemned stands as soon as tomorrow’s Relay Fair.
According to a couple sources close to the situation, Minister of Sports John King and NSC chairman Mac Fingall are expected to make a decision today as they wait for the roofs to be removed from the Jim Wedderburn and Patsy Callender Stands.
Calls to both top sports officials weren’t returned by press time but Fingall led a delegation including National Stadium manager Joel Garner and National Cultural Foundation events producer Dorsie Boyce that inspected the VIP Stand yesterday.
Barbados Relay Fair marketing manager Kimberley Rudder said the meet was going forward with the previous arrangement of staging tents on the cycling track until further notice. (JM)
