Former DLP senator has passed

FORMER?Democratic Labour Party (DLP) senator and businessman Dennis Hunte, who unsuccessfully contested the 1976 general election in?Christ?Church East, is dead.
He was 71.
Hunte, who died today, was for a long period in public life associated with youth activities and during the 1960s founded the League of Democratic Youth (LDY), the youth arm of the DLP and a youth club in its own right.
He was first appointed to the Senate in 1969 and served as Parliamentary?Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Youth Affairs. He was again in the Senate from 1976 to 1981 when he was fired by then Leader of the Opposition Errol Barrow at a public meeting.
Hunte was also president of the Barbados Youth Council (1964-71) and also served as president of the Caribbean Assembly of Youth.
He worked in the construction industry for most of his life and in the latter days was associated with the state-run National Housing Corporation (NHC).(AB)
