Alicia Trotman shone like a diamond throughout the Queen Of The Festival Pageant last Sunday night at Frederick Smith Secondary School to be crowned Miss Holetown 2013.
She beat six other contestants in a highly competitive field.
She deservedly won Best Talent for her self-choreographed dance piece Bring Back Wi Culture. Dressed as Mother Sally, she danced to a medley of songs, with her fake bottom jiggling and trembling, and ended the piece with a split. Members of the audience roared their approval.
The 20-year-old, wearing the sash of Miss Super Style Shoe Store, also won Miss Amity, Miss Congeniality and Best Gown.
Trotman, who had her own cheering section, was in shock when her name was called minutes after midnight.
The first runner-up was Tiffany Goodridge while second runner-up Maya Kellman won Most Improved.
Under the theme Diamonds In The Sky, the girls all shone brightly in costumes, dazzled in swimwear and glittered in their elaborate gowns. However, many did not shine in the question and answer segment, with only two of them really saying something sensible. Kellman was excellent in her answer on promoting Barbados while Trotman was on the right path with her answer until she started to stumble.
The four and a half hour affair started at 7:30 p.m. last Sunday and ended minutes after midnight Monday when Trotman was crowned by outgoing 2012 queen Zoe Trotman.
Kudos must be given to the girls in the talent segment. Despite the problems with the microphones, the talent on stage was top-notch and probably the best part of the night.
There were dramatic pieces from Keisha Pope, Kellman, Janeisa Pitt and Kristal Eversley, who won Miss Photogenic, and dance presentations from Simone Mottley, who won Face Of Settlers, Trotman and Goodridge. (NS)
