IF?ALL?GOES?according to plan, Barbados could be celebrating the first medal in the Under-17 boys’ 100 metres in almost ten years when the 42nd BTC CARIFTA Games get under way here in Nassau at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
Last year, Mario Burke went into the final with the fastest time from the preliminaries and was well on the way to a debut gold medal, but lost stride, form and any chance of a medal when Cliff Resias of The Bahamas pulled alongside him.
A year older, taller, stronger and, hopefully, more experienced, Burke should be among the medals when the event runs off this evening at 8:10.
Levi Cadogan should also be competitive in the Under-20 boys’ division. His best time of 10.34 seconds this season was wind-aided and he will be up against defending champion Jazeel Murphy and Michal Ohara of Jamaica.
