Skeete, Venezia rule Sol

ROGER “THE SHERIFF” SKEETE and Louis Venezia have done it again.
The pair made it two in a row when they rode away with SOL Rally Barbados 2011 at the weekend, having returned a total elapsed time of one hour, five minutes, and 51.95 seconds in their One World Group/Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre/Virgin Atlantic Subaru Impreza WRC S12.
Overall, it was Skeete’s 12th win in 21 years of the international event put on by the Barbados Rally Club.
Local contenders Paul “The Surfer” Bourne and Ronald Plant, in the Banks/Chefette/MQI/Castrol Ford Focus WRC07, were second after posting a clocking of one hour, six minutes, and 15.88 seconds.
The English pair of Paul Bird and female co-driver Kirsty Riddick returned a time of one hour, six minutes, 21.22 seconds, while the Trinidad-based, Jamaican driver John “Penti” Powell and Nick Telfer were fourth in a time of one hour, seven minutes, and 24.44 seconds.
They were ahead of another English pair, Rob Swann and Darren Garrod, who finished fifth in a time of one hour, seven minutes, and 34.06 seconds, while local boys Neil Armstrong and Barry Ward rounded out the top six, driving a Toyota Starlet.
The hometown boys returned a time of one hour, nine minutes, 49.07 seconds as the fastest two-wheel drive competitors.
Of the 89 entrants who started the rally, 37 were classified as overall finishers. (TT)
