Windies bats under the gun

It  has been slow, not so successful going thus far in the Digicel Home Series for the West Indies batsmen. A definite picking up of the pace is required.
That is what captain Darren Sammy will be asking of his players when the first match of the Digicel Pearls One-day International series begins this morning at an earlier than usual 9 a.m. at the Queen’s Park Oval.
The manner of Saturday’s 16-run defeat to Suresh Raina’s Indian team in the one-off Twenty20 tour opener, bore some resemblance to the losses the West Indies also suffered against India’s neighbours, Pakistan, last month. A pitch more welcoming of slow bowlers than the faster men saw Sammy’s men fail to get 160. On that occasion just half the side was dismissed.
“In the Twenty20 game, we had 8.2 overs of dot balls but we did not lose (many) wickets, so we managing to keep our wickets intact; it’s about getting the runs during that period,” Sammy noted at practise yesterday.
