THE PUBLIC was asked to assist the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in procuring much-needed items, including ventilators, as it launched its equipment prospectus yesterday at Accra Beach Hotel.
QEH chief executive officer Dr Dexter James said that there was a widening gap between the hospital’s recurring expenditure and the budget being allocated.
In the past, he said, donor aid had helped in narrowing that gap but the assistance was limited, so boosting public donations was important.
He said that for the past four years the hospital had been receiving $154.8 million from Government, which was now $47.5 million less than what was needed per year. Therefore, the financing model which the hospital had been using for the past 25 years was irrelevant to the current situation.
