Concerns have been raised about the trees being cut down at the site of the National Housing Corporation’s (NHC’s) housing project in Beckles Road, St Michael.
But the company responsible for the construction of the homes has stressed that all is in order as permission has been granted for the removal of trees that absolutely must go.
Work to clear the site began last week but Barbados National Trust president Dr Karl Watson told the SUNDAY SUN people had expressed concern that the heavily wooded area opposite the Seventh-Day Adventist School and near the Grotto was being cleared to make way for high-rise units.
He said large mahogany, cassia and evergreen trees stood on that site. Some, he added, could be nearly a century old.
