THERE WERE SOME major thrills and minor spills at the Queens Park Savannah when competing kings and queens paraded before the judges last night.
At the end of it Peola Marchan and Wade Madray would emerge queen and king of the bands respectively. Marchan parading in a costume titled D Jeweled Chandilier amassed 416 points to edge out Gloria Dallsingh’s Splendor of Lights, which totaled 414 points, while Kay Mason finished third with 407 points for Island Queen.
Madray, who carried the largest costume on parade, scored 421 points for Pacific Tsunami, to finish one point ahead of his closest rival Owen Hinds Jr, who was awarded 420 points for Battle of the Marabuntas and five more than multiple times winner Curtis Eustace whose Bozo-D-Legend Lives On earned 416 points.
In additional to the colourful splendour of the 20 costumes on display, the production around them was something to see as well. Several of them spewed confetti, while small “creatures” emerged from one of them. (YB)
