Two hours after Barbadians were ringing in the new year, the first baby girl for 2019 was born.
Her mother, a 27-year-old, declined to have her picture taken or give her name, but said it was her first time.
Thirty minutes later, Khadija Ifill, also a first-time mother, gave birth to baby Takai who weighed seven pounds five ounces.
Describing her labour as hard, the 27-year-old who, endured 27 hours of labour, said it was all worth it in the end.
“Her due date was December 29. It didn’t bother me that she was past her due date because sometimes you can go over, so I wasn’t worried. I am just happy she is here and she seems very peaceful,” she said. (RA)
