NSC job fears

Anxiety is growing at the National Sports Council (NSC) over fears that lay-offs are imminent.
Temporary workers at that statutory corporation have told the SUNDAY SUN that they understood as many as 70 of them could receive termination letters, possibly as early as next week. They could include groundsmen, casual workers, watchmen, drivers, caretakers, administrative staff and coaches.
Some posts would also be made redundant and a number of people sent on early retirement, the workers said.
What has heightened the anxiety among NSC workers too was the recent skills audit carried out by the Productivity Council which required them to complete a questionnaire providing details of their skills, competence and career path. That audit reportedly cost $16 000.
