HEALING HERBS: Don’t shun the sun

‘Shunning the sun’ can be considered as a way of reducing the production of natural Vitamin D in the body. We therefore have to commence spending quality time ensuring that we make contact with the sun daily.
In Genesis 1:16-18, it was revealed that the Creator made two great lights. The greater light (sun) to rule the day and the lesser one (moon) to rule the night. He saw that that was good.
Other sources of Vitamin D are kale, mushroom, oranges, salmon, tuna, mackerel and fish liver oil.
Dr Sheldon Hendler, a bio-chemist and author, says: “Vitamin D is the only vitamin whose biologically active form is a hormone.”
Further, research conducted by the Cancer Treatment Centre revealed that “people with adequate levels of Vitamin D have a significant lower risk of developing cancer”.
Technically speaking, Vitamin D is not really a vitamin; instead, it is the name given to a group of fat-soluble prohormones. These prohormones encourage the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous.
The two forms which I will focus attention on are: D2/ergocalciferol which is made naturally by plants, and D3/cholecalciferol which is made naturally when the body is exposed to the sun’s rays.
A well known Vitamin D deficiency is rickets. Furthermore, Dennis Bordette, chairman of the Department of Neurology and director of the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinamunology Centre at Oregon Health and Science University, states that “adequate levels of vitamin D can reduce the risk of developing multiple sclerosis especially for those persons living in the tropics”.
Research shows that adequate supplies of Vitamin D can reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.
It also keeps the brain working; lowers the risk of developing cancer, early death and heart attacks; makes recovery from tuberculosis more rapid; lowers the risk of women developing rheumatoid arthritis, and can assist in regulating the immune system.
Low levels of vitamin D an also increase the risk of infectious auto-immune and cardiovascular diseases.
Finally, the Creator, using infinite wisdom, gave us sunlight, therefore it is important that we daily spend time in nature to absorb adequate levels of it.
Additionally, I am sending a warning to those who hide in air-conditioned offices and cars to avoid the sun.
You are doing yourself a disservice by avoiding sunlight.
Researchers have recorded that absorbing sunlight can reduce the risk of developing many health challenges.
Consciously, as a melanin-dominant woman, I ignite my melanin with sunlight. Learn from the tourists who visit Barbados and frolic in the free sunlight for better health.
In essence, stop shunning the sun.
