Masterpieces of Bonsai trees, from the group Bonsai Barbados, and sushi were traditional Japanese features of the reception hosted to celebrate Japan’s National Day at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa last Wednesday.
The country’s resident Ambassador to Barbados Teruhiko Shinada invited a host of guests headed by Governor General Dame Sandra Mason to the cocktail event in honour of the 85th birthday of Japan’s retiring Head of State, Emperor Akihito, who abdicates the throne on April 30 next year.
The diplomats, business people, MPs and other diverse guests making up the list were treated to wines specially flown to Barbados from Nanyo City, the Japanese town in the northern part of the country which will be the host town for the Barbados Olympic team participating in the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
