China paving the way

The Ministry of Transport and Works could receive funding from the Government of the People’s Republic of China for some of its road building projects.
During a courtesy call recently on Minister John Boyce by Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados, Wei Quiang, Boyce said his ministry had identified projects in the Scotland District, an area prone to land slippage, which would require structural work.
He also noted that many narrow roads and bridges in that area needed upgrading. 
The ambassador, noting that roads were a priority in his country’s economic policy, said Chinese firms would welcome the opportunity to contribute to Barbados’ development. 
He added that there were economic co-operation funds to support such projects in Barbados and the rest of the Caribbean. (BGIS)
