Bulletproof vests, firearms and ski masks are among the items police have seized since embarking on raids two weeks ago.
Inspector David Welch, public relations officer with the Royal Barbados Police Force, said that some members of the public and those from the affected communities had been encouraging the officers as they descended on so-called trouble spots.
The operation, a joint effort by several units within the force, is part of the force’s strategy to cut down on criminal activity in targeted areas.
In an update on the five operations, four of which have been in St Michael, Welch said that the police had also executed 19 search warrants, arrested eight people and seized 33 pounds of compressed marijuana and 306 marijuana trees.
“What is significant about these raids is that we have recovered firearms, ammunition of various types, bulletproof vests and six ski masks,” Welch said.
So far the police have hit Gall Hill in Christ Church and Chapman Lane, Richmond, Deacons Road and The Pine, all in St Michael.
“We have had positive feedback from within the communities that we have gone into. We’ve also had generally good feedback from the Barbadian society, encouraging us to continue,” said Welch. (AC)
